Worm dunking in Woodstock

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Worm dunking in Woodstock

Post by GetTheNet!!! »

I went down to Woodstock to visit the girlfriend for a week. After a few days I started to feel the itch so I convinced her that we needed to dig some worms and wander on down to the local reservoir to see if we could track down some panfish. Luckily I had an ultralight outfit in my car for just such an occasion!

Well she didn't seem too interested in bobber watching, but she was quite happy to catch some rays while I did... :)

Image

I hit a few bullhead right away, little guys in the 8-9" class... pretty much like this litte guy

Image

I kept moving, trying different areas but everywhere I went I hit more little cats, they were ravenous, hit one on virtually every cast... I like watching that bobber go down as much as the next guy but after 30 or 35 writhing bullheads...

Image

I was pretty eager to get something else on the line.

Finally that bobber went down and when I set the hook there was some resistance there, and after a pretty good tussle on my ultralight combo I landed a nice little carp.

Image

It turned out I hit a little pod of them and in the next hour I landed 3 more carp (mixed in with about 15 more bullhead :? ) with Julie cheering me on from a nice sunny spot up the bank :D

These little guys aren't exactly up to the standard of the ones you guys get in the St. Lawrence but they put up a pretty good brawl on my ultralight outfit and made for a pretty fun bonus day on the bank.

If anyone is hard-up for some bullhead action in Oxford county try Pittock reservoir in woodstock, not much size but that bobber'll go down all day long.

Best fishes,

Matt

Hey you are down in my neck of the woods. The bullheads are a curse at Pittock....hate the things. For Woodstock, try southside...no bullheads. :D

Nice, at least you caught something. Same thing happen to me last year on Conestoga River, bullhead after bullhead.

What reservoir were you fishing? Any bass or pike in there?

It looks like you had a fun day. And you had a cheering section, which makes everything that much better.

Thanks for sharing.

Another fun fishin' report. Thanks for sharing.

(You've got to get Julie to take a cast or two. If she gets a good one on, maybe she'll be "hooked" like you. )

Hey Wolfe,

Actually Julie came up to Kenora to work at a fishing lodge with me last summer, she'd come out with me about three times a week, she could fish a senko better then half the guides on staff. She'd catch a couple 4lb smallmouth then curl up in the floor of the boat and take a nap until I decided to head back...*Sigh*

She's a trooper putting up with me, but I can't picture her ever being a member here...

Thanks for the encouragement.
