Extended MNR Comment Period

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Extended MNR Comment Period

Post by Aaron Shirley »

EXTENSION OF EBR POSTING DEADLINE FOR PUBLIC COMMENT

MNR is extending the deadline for public comment on two EBR postings until May 1, 2006.

XB05E6801 Review of the Southern Region walleye fishing regulations (original closure date March 27)

XB06E6001 Proposed 2007 Recreational Fishing Regulations for the new Fisheries Management Zones for Ontario (original closure date April 8)

MNR is doing this for the following reasons:

MNR has received much valuable input on the proposals to date and are encouraging anglers to send in additional comments on both proposals

The proposals have been widely publicized but there may still be some anglers who are unaware of the proposals and may like to comment on them.

With spring fishing just around the corner, anglers are thinking more about fishing and are checking websites for information on fishing. They may come across the announcements on several websites and may be more apt to comment at this time of year.

Recent media coverage that reaches a large audience (e.g. Ontario Out of Doors magazine) is just hitting the newsstands so we want to allow enough time for anglers to read these articles and respond to the proposals.

Thank you very much for posting this information, I had looked for the links, but with dial up it was more than tedious.

I am surprised that the catfish quota is the same as the whitefish??

I thought the whitefish would have been a lot more vulnerable to fishing pressure, (and a much more desireable tourism attractant species). Based on the numbers of channel cats that end up on your line on the Ottawa River- regardless of bait - I would think they can pretty well sustain the existing pressure and then some!!
