How do you rig your kayak for fishing? There are so many accessories available for purchase, as well as ingenious DIY additions. Would love to see your rigged yaks here.
To start things off, here is one of ours. It is a Malibu X Factor with a BassYaks Motor Kit and of course a milk crate.

So how do I rig my boat?

In the 5 years I've been kayak fishing I done accessories rigging thing but last year I just left all that stuff at home. A basic SOT with a rudder and a GPS is all I need. Give me a short boat for fast rivers and long boat for big water and I'm happy.

It's interesting the way the industry has taken kayaks to the extreme with lots of gimmicks and gizmos. I can understand the need for some of these features for the surf launchers but I scratch my head as to what use these features are to land locked yakers.

For me simple and lite works best.

Where there is an indusry there is an aftermarket. The amount of accessories now available demonstrate the growth of the industry in general. If there was no market for the after-market products, it would not be sustainable.

In the past few years during which I have been involved, I have noticed a big change in the marketplace in Canada, with a shift from originally;-not all, but the majority of kayak fishermen being those taking up the sport for budgetary reasons; to present day, where you know have people who can afford just about any kind of boat that they want for fishing, but who are deciding on kayaks. Many of these newcomers want the best with all of the bells and whistles.

Personally though, I tend to agree with you. The less I have to take out and worry about losing, the better. BUT that BassYak Motor Kit, a GPS, Fishfinder and Portable VHS, will be on at least one of my kayaks this year!

The Malibu X Factor is 14+ feet in length and very stable. In the U.S. they even install raised platforms for fishing the flats. I will try to dig up some pics & post.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago. I saw it at the gigantic fishing show here in Yokohama. It's a fishing yak with a pedal-powered propeller.

Thanks Joco. I was looking for one of those. The fact that so many fishermen in Canada know so little about what you can do with these kayaks, really shows just how new this sport is to Canada.

By the way, you have quite a fleet there.

I have seen the boat, but not any reviews on it yet. How does it compare to Hobie's pedal system? Anybody know?
