I see a lot of you guys posting some pretty great numbers and size of bass every fall, but I have to say my bass fishing really slows down as the water cools. I've tried different spots, different presentations, etc but can't seem to figure this fall feedbag out?? I mostly fish St Lawrence river, where it's usually pretty easy to get into some smallies but also plenty of back lakes like Charleston and I could use some tips.

I'm not looking for your hot spots, but let's hear what's working for you guys as the water is cooling - Deeper? Slower? Bigger presentations? Live bait? Dyanmite

Typically Id go deeper and slower. Try experimenting with a drop shot or raps. Focus on deep weedbeds or drop offs just outside of a weedbed.

thanks Captain Cotton. Drop shot is my go-to rig on the river. I usually use a 3" gulp minnow. I'm still catching some bass, but not nearly as many as summer time

I've been doing well lately on deeper flats and humps with tube jigs

How deep is the ideal depth to work with? Thx.

If there's shad for forage ( Charleston etc ) I find deep diving cranks outperform plastics, this time
of year. The mules are focused on the gizzard shad, and can even be suspended over 90 fow.
The gulls and loons give you good hints where.

In rivers I would look for big boulders or current breaks, some nice weedlines will also hold smallmouth as well. Lure wise I think you can pretty much use summer tactics for now until the water gets even cooler, then slow and easy is the ticket.

Bass season starts in November...just sayin.

Every lake or river is different and can change from day to day. Off shore humps and steep breaks have been hot the past two weeks. Drop Shot and tubes have been the deal for me. That pig above ate a DT-14.
