Anyone have a good technique to save snagged lures? I've seen those grabber things you slide down your line, thought they were slightly gimmicky...

Any hints or tips would be appreciated. Been taking the Missus out and she has a habit of snagging my good lures on the only log in the lake lol....

The lure retriever works great. You must have a wire leader or swivel for it to grab a hold of.

If you use 3x strong hooks, it might be a crap shoot as to what gives first - hook or snap swivel.

You could also give her top water lures

It's not a way to retrieve them but if you are losing crankbaits, take a look at floteback lures. Not something I have tried yet but the concept is pretty cool and you would only lose a treble this way...

If you are fishing on a river...

I have used a piece of hockey stick (or other wood) with an eye hook. If you are fishing in a area of high current like the Ottawa River and you are fishing from shore, this will tend to dislodge the lure and then continues to slide down the line effectively lifting the lure up and over the obstruction.

Use cheap wood though, if it doesn't dislodge your lure, then you are going to lose the float too (I guess you could attach a second line to the float?).

2 methods I use are reel down to the lure so the tip of rod is at the lure and push the rod toward the lure.
Or
Before setting the rod to drive the lure further into the wood, drive the boat to other side of wood and then pull towards you.

I've used both many times.

Take a heavy lead Dipsy swivel sinker and attach a snap to it, clip it to line when snagged the weight will slide down your line and knock your lure free.

This usually works for me.

On a serious note,
I saw a fellow on YouTube was using an old spark plug, he would slide it down the line using a snap swivel he had attached to it. Simple awful simple, as the weight of the spark plug would certainly knock your hook free and I guess you could tie some line to it to retrieve it a bit and give it another wack as needed.

Spark plug would work but like Brad said, get a heavy bell sinker.

Simply cut the line and re-tie another lure !!

Hmmm I was going to say get a new missus.......

Use a 250lb fluorocarbon leader and 100lb power pro lol you will bend the hooks off the bait before you lose it lol

Thanks for the tips guys. I like the one where you use the tip of your rod to dislodge the lure, and also getting the GF some dive gear in her size. I think I'm just going to give her top water lures for now, or just cheap-o ones that she can snag all day. I used to just open my tackle box and and let her pick.....bad idea. Like the rookie angler, she chooses the shinny ones, which are also the most expensive!
