I've had a hard time finding the walleye around Ottawa, but did manage some success Sunday on the Miss river. A friend and I made an impromptu trip yesterday (Sunday) to Pakenham. We launched at the free ramp around noon. We tossed white, chartreuse and orange twister tails and trolled some divers up and down the river. It was a good fun day cruising and catching a bunch of little eyes and pike all along the river. We didn't manage any walleye over 15.5" until i announced "last cast" around 5 o'clock. I managed to hook into my biggest Ottawa region walleye to date at 24.25" - what a blast - so much fun on the ultra light! At the end of the day we didn't manage any keepers which surprised me based on the number of little ones we found; but i definitely finished the day feeling satisfied.
My First on the day.
Bud's first soft water eye.
And the big one. (Changed my sunglasses - lost a contact and had to switch to prescription sunnies

Nice fish - it's a really interesting river if you're willing to go after some of the more unusual stuff. I caught a giant Fallfish once I figured out how to target them.
It was crazy huge at 17" (it's a species of chub in the minnow family ... so even 12" is huge)
There is also a very diverse collection of suckers - although I'm still figuring them out. (many thanks to other FH members)
Pike can and do grow to a decent size but the poor walleyes (often called Pickerel by locals? i don't know why) are all pretty small.
The river is a completely closed 'aqua-sphere' ie. the fish can't get out or migrate, hydro dams and natural falls, etc. Thus the fishing sanctuary on the middle stretch between Almonte and Pakkenham.
The part where I fish is mostly the fast shallow water between Blakeney and the falls, lots of cool stuff, a small half pound rock bass in swift moving current on light tackle or tenkara is a blast!
Oh edit to show you a Fall Fish - (not my photo's)

Don't be fooled, there are big walleyes in that river! My uncle and his friend went to a bottleneck spot on that river and in about 20 min. they caught two seven/eight pound walleyes!!! You can camp at riverbend and launch your boat there as well.

One of my favorite placees to fish actaully. Right where you are by the falls is also a great place for carp. You have miles of water you can fish from Pakenhan down toward Antrim etc. Some good spots under bridges. I also had one of my best evenings fishing for bullheads around there. Myself and two friends topped out at over 80 in 4 hours. It was non stop drop catch rebait with a worm and on and on.

Tbone,
Thanks for the tip on riverbend. I'll be looking for more launch sites along the miss. It's a good long system with lots of opportunities and convenient proximity to Ottawa.
Any info on free ramps would be appreciated.
Almontefisher already put me onto Appleton last year!

Beauty walters bud, nice job.
@MichaelGA, if you want to target fallfish, I'd be happy to give you the name of a lake in Algonquin Park where you can catch that size consistently. Please also harvest them so the brook trout have more space to grow.
