Canoeing into new and SPECK-tacular waters = HUGE payoff!!!

Got up crazy dark and early so that we could arrive at the new spot as the sun was rising. This lake has been on my radar for 6 years now so I was excited to finally give it a shot. It sure looked ready for us...
Not long after the sun rose over the mountain, I got me a beauty 20 inch male speck!!!
Gotta love catching footballs like these in the middle of July. This lake probably hasn't seen a fisherman's lure since bass opener...
A couple more beauties came out to play not long after...
Another was lost canoe-side after an epic battle... A great first impression of a new lake that I look forward to fish again.

I'd like to know as well. Most of my mid-summer specks are all caught on a slow troll or crawl along a shoreline. Casting normally picks up a lot of the freshly seeded fish, the bigger ones seem to be hunkered down a bit deeper.

At this time of year, I troll for them. They are deeper than in the spring so I'll be trolling further away from the shoreline. The water is much warmer now so generally I'm also trolling faster than I would in the spring 'cause they will chase your lure more now than in the springtime. This also makes for some great fights as the specks have more energy and they take many runs before you can finally settle them down and guide 'em into the net.
