bad gas???

Hey guys,
Just had the head gasket replaced in my 1990 Suzuki DT25.. Started up alright but ended up trolling back with the electric.. After reading other comments I'm thinking it might be last years gas giving me the problem.. My question is, what do I do with the old gas? Will Canadian Tire take it?? Also, it would only start at the end with the choke on.. As soon I took the choke off or tried to pop it in gear she would die.. What do you guys think?? Gas or something more serious.. What exactly does the choke do? Give more gas? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you got more problems after you had the repair done.
If it starts and continues running with the choke the gas is probably ok. Given that it is last years gas I would replace it even if you put fuel stabilizer in it. The choke is used for cold starts, it makes the fuel mixture more rich.
If the engine is running right and warm you don't need the choke.
It sounds like you have carburetor problems. A carb rebuild may help you out.
Anytime you put an outboard away for storage you should always add fuel stabilizer, it protects the fuel for future use....Larry
Drain the gas tank

Drain the gas tank and put it in your car or start a fire. Youir car will run fine on the gas.
Take the motor and drain the gas by either taking the float bowl off or stand it on it's head and the gas will drain out of the carburetor.
What's happening is the good fuel is on top of the bad fuel and when you take off the choke it is pulling up the bad fuel.
You MAY need the carb cleaned but if it worked fine last year and this only happened recently it is the gas.
Don't think it is major and suspect just draining the fuel will fix the problem. Also drain the gas line because all will be for not if you drain the gas out of the carb and don't drain the fuel line you will be back at the beginning.
If this is too difficult for you call me or drop it by my shop and I will get it going for you.

Took both your advise... Drained the old fuel and cleaned the carb with that spray from CT... Got the old SOB going... Thanks very much for the info boys.. Michael, what type of shop do you have? Cars, boats, outboards?? I'll take you up on that offer next time I have something comes up. By the way, great site... Tons of info!!!!
