I own a wireless motorguide 12volt with 55lb of thrust. It came with a 2 blade prop from the dealer. This prop works well in open water. But does not cut weeds very well. Has anyone used a 3 blade prop? Im thinking about going with the New hydrilla hacker. They recommend this prop for a 24 -36 volt unit? Is there a risk of damage to my 12 volt unit?

I have the 3 blade on my new 82 lb motorguide and it works excellent. I hate to tell you this but I think a 3 blade on your 12 volt may do some damage. I know my old motorguide had a minn kota pro on it when I got the boat and the place I went to get the new motor told me that was not good to do because it caused the motor to draw to many amps. He also told me motorguide has specific props for there motors to prevent this from happening. If you want the info for the place I got mine PM me and I will send it to you. They are the motorguide warranty service place in Ontario and they are really helpful so they should be able to tell you for sure.

I use the hydrilla hacker and it does draw more than the smaller stock 3 blade that worked like crap in the weeds. The hacker is the answer for weeds but I agree with fishmaster and motorguide that it can damage your 12 volt motor.

Both have their good points.

The two blade and a ton on force and got you moving and I found kept you on spots better in lousy weather. Weeded up easily as I recall. It did however break easily... or easily enough on the second or third time I hit something with it.

The three blade Machete Blade.... is ok. New it chops weeds nicely but once it loses its edge it too can get messed up with weeds if you are not on a high speed and trying to get through the slop. It does take a beating better than the two blade prop. It is a lot cheaper to replace than the two blader and a lot easier to find. I have had a hard time finding the two blader at a good price.

I have been told that any blade for an electric that isn't maintained well will collect weeds. It is important to keep the blade sharp and to work out any notchs and dings so that weeds don't cling and get tangle on those parts of the prop. Kills battery performance too.
