Mariner Motors

Looking at upgrading my current boat.

Looking at a nice Lund Sportsman and has a 115 Mariner on the back. it's a 1996 so not new by any means but what are peoples experience with them as I have no info on them.

I have a 1998 200 HP EFI Mariner.Spends a ton of time on the water. I have had only one major problem. Main water intake hose blew off one day while running WOT , you can guess what damage that did. Other than that,problem free. Starts everytime and runs strong all season. I do have it maintained by a qualified marine mechanic each spring and fall, which is the key to smooth running ,IMO.

Mariner's are simply a Merc in disguise. All major components in the engine are Merc.

If it has been maintained each year then it should be in good condition. Get a compression check and look at the gear oil if either is bad don't buy it. For a small fee I do pre-purchase checks if you can get it to my shop. PM me if you want more details. Michael

Hey Carlco,
I just upgraded my boat this year. I had a smaller Mariner motor that was great. We spent a lot of time on the water. I tuned it up each year and kept the plugs changed. It was very reliable.

Compression checks out but one of the cylinders is running hotter not sure if I should really be concerned with that though...
