Sound like we need a PCT
And if they make in to the weighin alive, well Ottawa does have a large Asian community that would appreciate them.

Why so popular? Take it from a serious carp fisherman.

Some think there are toxic, right Steve??? :lol: but all in all, they are just a blast.

Usulay the ones that say they are crap are the ones that have never fished them. I guess it's just to hear themselves talk or bitch that they are destroying everything. :wink:

In my tender years, we used to fish Carp, in a couple of ponds in Darryl Sittler's back yard. Always caught some grief from my mom after making a mess of the kitchen trying to prepare dough-balls/ corn mixture. Long casts and watching a set line seemed boring until a fish would take the bait and then it would be a fight over who got to play out the fish.....Memories of being a kid, I'll never forget.

Today, Carp are'nt for kids :lol: :lol: It's serious business for many.

Not as easy to catch as some may think, these exotics are here to stay, although they'll never hold a candle to the almighty Rock Bass :lol:

While you boys slug it out via PM (just a suggestion so that the rest of us don't have to wade through your posts to get to the actual fishing reports), I will be targeting carp here in Japan using my 9-wt fly rod. It is 16 degrees outside in Yokohama and trout season is closed.

Carp are far more difficult to catch than bass and they fight harder long after most muskies would have thrown in the towel. I've hooked a few in Ontario and they were really amazing. I'm still trying to get these fish here in Japan to take my flies....I mean I'm teaching them how to avoid getting caught...... :roll:

I took a page out of Andy's book and cleaned up this thread. I removed most of the insults and left the items that pertain to the topic. Lets keep civil and not insult each other. Good ice will be here soon :D (I hope)

carp fishing sure is a blast!

caught a 15 pounder in mid summer WHAT A FIGHTER!

then my gf caught a 20 pounder best fight of her life!

invading the waters. i dont know about that !

all i know is that i love fishing! 8)

All I know is that they make it REALLY hard to feed a spot for duck hunting on the river!!!!!! Anyone who wants to fish carp I will let you know when I start feeding and you guys can fill your boots!!

orrsey - I hate to tell you this under the circumstances, but carp guys usually don't keep their catch....they all go back. Sorry!

Easy to catch, fight like heck, and you will most likely never lose one by spitting the hook, These fish are so fun :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

Even the guys that bow hunt them throw them back, which I thought was strange. I've never bow hunted them but have caught many and thought about throwing some of them up on shore, due to there large unharvested population. But couldn't do it and couldn't see myself eating one either. I guess its up to the bow hunters to regulate there numbers which I don't think there is many left. I know lots of spots for bow guys on the Larry.

LOL I used to work at Lapointe Fish in Byward and we would get carp in around Christmas (some European countries eat carp instead of turkey) I was always told that they were gross and stinky. I've only caught one in my life and have to say, I'm a friggin fan! I can't wait 'till spring to catch some more! You really have to catch one before you can label them as 'bad' And just to kill an urban legend - they are only smelly if they live in smelly water. They are tonnes of fun - don't bash it 'til you try it!
