Lake Dore near Eganville

Anyone been to Lake Dore near Eganville lately?

I did a search and most of the comments are over 2-yrs old. It appears there are pike, LMB and SMB (maybe even walleye?).

We have friends who have a trailer there, and they invited my daughter up (and me of course) for a couple of day next week. Want to know what to expect. Any tips on tackle, pointers, spots to look out for, etc. are greatly appreciated.

I was there a couple of years ago, and caught lots of LMB. Not big ones though. But they have to be there somewhere. If you are at Lake Doré Tent and Trailer Park, you go out towards your left, if I can recall about a km. or so and fish about 500 m. from shore. I am not 100% sure of those numbers, but they give you something. We caught pike to the right of the park, in front of the other campground in the little bay there. They were not very big either. You were never skunked in that lake.

I had a trailer at the Smith's Bay Camp site for 8 years, and fished that lake many times.

Yes the species of fish mentioned are present in the lake, although I never caught myself a walleye (just endvid the small kids coming back with theirs on the strings).

As for gear, we left the spoons and other stuff in the tackle box. Pretty much all of our catches were with simple live worm on the end of the hook and cast and let sink and feel for a bite, wait for a second or two, then set the hook.

Fish with this method any time of the day and you catch many fish.

For pikes, the odd spoon worked also, but even the simple worm did its trick on some pikes.

As for where to fish. Pretty much anywhere, even in the middle of the lake when the weeds take over. Find the underwater river/stream flow and fish the edges for walleyes (bring a sonar).

Pretty much a shallow lake, but in that river bed at some places it goes down to 60-80 feet (unbelievable) drop-off.

I camped on that lake for over 21 years. The ministry stocks it with walleye, but it's a slotted lake. I think 15" is the size, but check the regs. At this time of the years, the weeds will be high enough in most parts of the lake to choke a beaver. Good luck if you're heading out there.... my advice, try the point off the church or the mouth of black creek on the west side of the lake.

Actually the size limit is like other stocked lakes, nothing allowed under 20 inches. its also one of the best mudpout spots around!

There are walleye in Lake Dore because the MNR take them from Mink Lake all the time to re-stock Lake Dore. I spoke to a few MNR guys that were on Mink Lake a few weeks ago doing a survey and this is what they told me.

There are walleye in Lake Dore because the MNR take them from Mink Lake all the time to re-stock Lake Dore. I spoke to a few MNR guys that were on Mink Lake a few weeks ago doing a survey and this is what they told me.

I think they were pulling your leg. Mink Lake does have some walleye but they are concentrated in a very small area(1/2 square km).over half the lake is under 10ft in depth. to take 50 from there would be close to wiping them out. Lake Dore stocking was a one time deal. the MNR secretly dumped old breeders in there and never fessed up until numerous people caught big ones over 10lbs. and believe me there were alot of them. the slot size wasn't introduced til afterwards because they never expected the walleye to even come close to recovering. Lake Dore, in the 60's and 70's, had a very healthy walleye population. they used this population to stock other lakes such as Round lake because it was thought to be a very healthy strain. But in doing so, the walleye in Lake Dore were virtually wiped out. The walleye comeback in lake Dore was a MNR accident resulting in a positive outcome.
